Chomhairle Fiacloireachta, the Dental Council, was
established under the provisions of the Dentists Act
1985. Its general concern is to promote high standards
of professional education and professional conduct among
dentists.

Founded
in 1949, the Irish Dental Benevolent Society provides
financial assistance for dentists and/or their families,
when the need arises.
Given the enormous societal changes of the past 50
years, the variety of circumstances for which aid may be
requested has changed.

The
Council of European Dentists (CED) is a European
not-for-profit association which represents over 300,000
dentists across Europe. It is composed of national
dental associations and chambers from 30 European
countries. Its key objectives are to promote high
standards of oral healthcare and effective
patient-safety centred professional practice across
Europe, including through regular contacts with other
European organisations and the EU institutions.

The
Dublin Dental School and Hospital is one of three dental
education and training institutions in Ireland and
provides programmes across the full range of specialties
in dentistry. The School and Hospital's educational
programmes encompass Undergraduate, Postgraduate,
Auxiliary and Continuing Education. These programmes
lead to qualifications at certificate, diploma, degree
and higher degree level.

The Dental
Health Foundation plays an important role in
facilitating and supporting the promotion of oral health
in Ireland. The Foundation has worked (and continues to
do so) closely with the Department of Health and
Children including its Health Promotion Unit, providing
a focus for oral health within the wider context of
health promotion in Ireland. It also provides a
complimentary role to public health bodies on a national
basis.

The ISDH
was formally established in 2002. It serves to promote,
preserve and protect the oral health of people with
disabilities.
The Officers of the Society consist of the President,
the Immediate Past-President, the President Elect, the
Honorary Secretary, the Honorary Membership Secretary
and the Honorary Treasurer.

British Dental Association (BDA) is the professional
association and trade union for dentists in the United
Kingdom and was founded in 1880. Membership, which is
voluntary, stands at around 23,000. The majority of
members are in general practice, or "High Street"
practices.
